Hi everyone thought id share more of our story
Little input on how we delt with or deal with
Travis was diagnosed ADHD back when he wasin 5th grade he is just about finishing up his freshmen year now.
He was having a very bad school year and although ADHD kept coming up now and then this is when things hit rock bottom grade wise and his teacher was a nitemare which did not help.
He didnt have any friends,he was getting in trouble on the bus,he was sad, i was sad it was a mess.
So my husband who was in denial and I started the testing.
He only saw a psychiatrist once and she found him a very happy boy and said he did not need to come back
she met with us that day and she spent an hour with us and and hour with Travis testing then another hour with the 3 of us together just talking.
Then we were givin a new Ped. Dr. Greene. she has been the best thing to ever ever ever happen to our family.
Travis was put on something 10 mg and it made him moody
he was off that in a week
Then put on I think a low dose of concerta which did the trick for awhile.
last summer he asked his doctor, not us but him, to have his meds uped for the new school year
he felt he wasnt able to keep on track the way he knew he could that something wasnt working
he has been on high honor roll all year
he has a nice group of friends
he is in varsity track and even had a few girlfriends.
he is in shape, eating great.his weight has fluctated thru the years
he is in control of his ADHD now not us.
I read some of your stories and my heart just breaks for you
I wont offer advise for things I personally didnt deal with
But I am here for support.
Looking back it seemed things were so hard
But now I see we had it pretty easy with a few obstacles to overcome.
I did however learn one thing that we all share we love our kids
And if were not in their corner who will be
Some days will be harder then others and even some weeks and months.
But God willing it will get better
Shelly
