I can't believe he was fired for being Muslim!! That's horrible!! And that's awful about your oldest having trouble at school. I would have thought there was a larger Muslim population in DC? Is there no Islamic School your kids can attend instead? Thankfully, we haven't had any problems (except, obviously, right after 9/11) but I also think it could be that my DH looks Latino (people come up to him speaking in Spanish alllll the time!). I've wanted to practice wearing the hijaab, but I'm too scared to walk around in it. And, when DH prays in the car people walk by staring at him and pointing. I hate it! People here have no idea, Ugh.
I totally understand about the name issue. My family is Christian, and the idea of my children having Muslim names terrifies them. So I've been trying to find names that seem to work for both cultures. I like Rayhaan because people and family here can call him Ray (plus his family likes it because apparently it's "unique"). Girl names, I think, are alot easier because there are so many that are used here. Unfortunately, being Muslim in this country is soooo hard. I can't wait to see what you guys decide on! Good luck!!
