DS was a preemie but I was able to succesfully breastfeed him for a year. DD just recently weaned herself at 15 months.
For me, I seem to have my first ovulation/period when baby is 10 months old. DF and I were TTC this baby and when DD turned 10 months I had my first ovulation and got preggo.
I personally LOVE breastfeeding and it is my personal choice for many reasons. One is that I haven't had a period since March of 2008(got pregnant with DD after that).
It can be difficult. If you are going to be in a hospital, ask the nurses to help you with getting baby latched on. Baby has to learn. It's recommended that you "tease" baby's mouth with your nipple til they open real wide, then pull baby to you. You're nipples might get sore at first. The hospitals always gave me lansinoh cream(for sore nipples). A little goes a long way with that stuff. And baby can nurse with it on. Basically the first 6 weeks is the hardest, but if you can make it past that, then you'll be fine.
