Cloth diapers are MUCH cheaper in the long run! The initial cost is higher, but you save so much over time. You may be able to convince the husband by doing a simple cost calculation. Check out this site for a basic comparison:
The Cost of Cloth Diapers. There are a lot of options with cloth diapers, some much cheaper than others, but all options usually end up being cheaper than disposables.
Your cheapest option is to use prefolds (very good ones from Green Mountain Diapers are about $24/dozen) with covers (very good ones are about $12 each, but they are reused for multiple changes, not washed every time). You end up paying a couple hundred for an initial stash of cloth diapers, but over time spend a lot less. Let DH see the cost comparison!
Also, for a lot of good info on cloth diapers, go down to the Cloth Diapering posts in the Parenting section. It is a very active discussion group and you learn a lot about the different types of diapers.
