bad appointment today...

So I had my followup/12 week appointment today. Baby is doing great, but my SCH has now grown to 9cm! I am so upset, I have been on strict bed rest for nearly 3 weeks and it grew 2cm. So now 2 more weeks of bed rest until I get checked again, my Dr. is going with "just wait and see" and hardly told me any of the risks. I put a call in with some questions, but probably won;t here from them until tomorrow. I am so worried, 9cm seems pretty big. Has anyone else had an SCH? please share your story...

I have a "tiny" one (subchorionic herorrhage, assuming that's what sch was). They said its not an issue unless its really big. They didn't however define "big". From research I've done if it does become large it can increase the odds of mc, but does not mean it will cause a mc. They are also known to just randomly heal.

The advice I was given, and from what I read was do not lift heavy objects, exercise much, have sex, or stand for long periods of time. I think bottom line is don't do anything that strains the body.

I don't have any experience with SCH, but just wanted to let you know I'm keeping you and baby in my T&P's. I hope you get some answers soon.

I am not sure what 'big' is considered but I had one with my son and it was 4.4cm x 4cm or something like that and it DID clear up pretty quick! Just try and relax, keep hydrated and hopefully the SCH will close!

I have read about this. SCH only occur in 1% of pregnancies, so it's pretty rare.

The size of the hematoma and location increases the risk of miscarraige. The mother's age at the time of pregnancy increases the risk of miscarraige. The location of the hemotoma increases the risk of miscarraige, and the age of the pregnancy increases the risk of miscarraige. Increasing size of hematoma increases the risk of misscarraige. The hemotoma can lift the placenta from the unterine wall, which is why it's such a huge risk. You can read more about it here.

I am very surprised your doctor seems so ... unworried about your condition. I am not trying to scare you, but everything I am reading seems that an increasing hematoma is not a good sign. Hopefully, bed rest will help this time around.

Thanks for the replies and well wishes ladies. I do know that the SCH is NOT behind the placenta, which is good. I did a little more research and am going to go see the MFM who did my CVS to talk to her further about it.

I had one with this pregnancy and I started spotting around week 5 and didn't stop until about a week ago. They said they couldn't answer whether or not the baby would make it, they said only time would tell. But, they said since mine was on the smaller side, I'd have to just wait till it passed to stop spotting. I guess it took a month for this to happen since I've finally stopped. They never put me on bed rest though, I guess because it wasn't huge, they just told me not to lift anything heavy.

I have an SCH. Not as big as yours, mine is just over 2cm on most measurements. I do have a question though. My dr has been treating me with a hydroxyprogesterone to "keep my uterus from contracting" because of the SCH. This is usually used in people with pre-term labor. I am trying to switch to a midwife and they are confused by this treatment- as am I at this point. Have you been treated with anything other then bed rest? I haven't been bed rest but "take it easy" and pelvic rest.

I have only prescribed bed rest. My Ob has not suggested anything else, but she didn't tell me much about it at all. I am actually looking to go see a Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist next week for more answers and peace of mind. I hope yours clears up quickly.

I think that is a good idea for you to see a specialist since yours is so big. I can't imagine being on bed rest this early. Praying your SCH clears up soon and you can enjoy this pregnancy! When do you get your genetic testing results?
