Re: Dopplers
I own one. My DH got it for me as a birthday gift when I was pregnant with DS#2. I'll wait until I'm about 8 weeks to start using it. With my last pregnancy I heard her heartbeat with it about 8 1/2 weeks. I use it throughout the first trimester and then again quite a bit in the last few weeks to help determine the position of the baby (mine have a hard time staying head down because of the shape of my uterus) It was a great investment.

I bought one back in 2007. Love having it.

Re: Dopplers
I'm not sure if I will get one. I think I'd be ok without it but it would be neat to be able to hea baby whenever I want :)

Re: Dopplers
I don't think I will get one, I haven't had one before, and I don't have the money now. I'd probably spend too much time listening with it anyway! LOL

Re: Dopplers
I am tempted. Never had one with my other kids, but it is cool to hear and would come in handy during times of worry.

Re: Dopplers
I had one with my 3rd pregnancy. I loved it until one night at 13 weeks, I couldn't find the baby's heartbeat at all. I was up all night in a panic. The worse night of my life. I sat for an hour 1/2 to be seen by my doc the next day. Our baby (girl) had passed away. We already knew she was genetically perfect so it was the most unexpected thing in the world. Those hours of hell are why I will never get myself another doppler.

Re: Dopplers
I saw one at a yard sale last year and I really wanted to buy it, but at the time I wasn't sure if we would have another baby or not, so I didn't get it. If I find another at a great deal like that I will definately pick it up, but I won't go out and buy one from the store.

I got mine on ebay for around $90 (that was 3 years ago and I think they are cheaper now) Search "fetal doppler" and they will come up. The cheap ones sold at wal-mart, target, BRU etc (angelsounds) are a waste of money and don't work well at all. You need a nicer one if you want to be able to use it in the first trimester.

ETA: Just so you know I have never had much luck with the automated hb counter on the doppler and find it much more accurate to just count and calculated the heartrate myself.

Re: Dopplers
Another reason I love having the doppler is because DH rarely ever is able to come to my appointments (he is either at work or at home with the kids) so he likes that he can use the doppler to listen to the baby since he doesn't get to hear the heartbeat at the appointments.

Re: Dopplers
I bought one on fetaldoppler.net for 52.95 and free shipping. I rented one in my last pregnancy for the earlier weeks when you can't feel the baby. It definitely kept me sane since that pregnancy was after a loss.
