Sore Breast
OUCH - my left breast is sore to the touch! There is no redness. I do not think it is swollen (hard to tell as I am 2+ sizes larger than normal.) Elli is often a one side eater and i' just alternate each feeding. Trying to make sure that she either eats or I pump this side fully every 3 hours. Don't want to increase supply on this side. How would I know if it is an infection?

Re: Sore Breast
I have no idea how you would tell if its infected. Lilah prefers one boob to the other, so I usually just pump the left breast and give her the right when I don't feel like fussing with her. But I do know that both my breasts get sore when overfull.

Re: Sore Breast
I started getting the chills and feeling achy like the flu by the end of the day.

It sounds like a clogged duct. Can you feel a hard knot? I would take an Ibuprofen to reduce swelling, massage it in a hot shower, and avoid underwire bras or too tight of a bra. For me, if I nurse with baby on the floor and me on all fours over baby, gravity helps to pull the clog out

Re: Sore Breast
Make sure you don't massage right on the hard spot if you have one...I was doing this and then the midwife said massaging the actual bump will mske it w orse and you can get inflammation. You want to massage the area around the bump toward your nipple if that makes sense.

Re: Sore Breast
I get those hard bumps that are sore too. I put a warm washcloth on it for a few minutes then pump until I am good and empty on that side. It has worked so far for me.

Re: Sore Breast
If it's an infection, you will most likely have a fever. Hope it's not!
