OT: fruit flies/ gnats?
We get these things in our house and it drives me crazy. We went out of town for a few days and when we came home yesterday, they were everywhere. Really bad in the bathrooms. Anyone have any advice on how to get rid of them? I don't leave food out and i try to keep the trash taken our regularly.

Ugh they were such a problem in San Diego for us. I forget how we finally got rid of them. I think it's apple cider vinegar that attracts them but I can't remember 100%.

Re: OT: fruit flies/ gnats?
We had a fly problem once and I realized there was some gunk on the underside of our flip top kitchen trash pail and they were breeding there  it looked like sticky little rice kernels. I washed the heck out of it and it fixed it. I recommend going on a deep search for random nooks and crannies. Maybe a LO threw a piece of fruit or something under a piece of furniture or in the corner somewhere.

Ours ended up being bananas. We left them on the counter.

Bananas are the main culprit in our house. I've trapped them in a wine bottle before. If there is a little wine at the bottom, they fly in but can't figure out how to get out. Try pouring a little bleach down the drains in the bathroom

Re: OT: fruit flies/ gnats?
We've got a major problem with them right now. I've got little fruit fly traps in every room. Just a shallow bowl with a tablespoon or so of wine and a squirt of dish soap. The fruit flies are attracted to the smell and drown themselves in it. I'm changing the traps daily and there are tons of dead flies. I keep telling my parents that they need to put their produce away until the fruit fly problem is rectified, and that they need a compost bin with a lid, not just an open bowl on the counter. But since they don't listen to me, we'll keep dealing with the fruit flies.

Bleach down all the drains in the house, wash your fruit in vinegar water (1C to 1Gal) when you bring it home... We just had a ton of them from a bag of Apples I had bought last week. I HATE flies!
