When the family decided not to be a part of his life anymore. I try to put a positive spin on it all, but somethings are just hard.

This will be my son's book to have forever. Wherever he goes it'll go with him and he can read it or not as he gets older. I think it is very important that all kids have the option of knowing their history, but I don't think it should be forced on them either.
The Life Books sound like a very good idea, I think I'll do that and just make sure that my child knows that I'm willing to read it with them if they want.

"The Lord compensates the faithful for every loss. That which is taken away from those who love the Lord will be added unto them in His own way. While it may not come at the time we desire, the faithful will know that every tear today will eventually be returned a hundredfold with tears of rejoicing and gratitude..... These experiences, while often difficult to bear at the time, are percisely the kinds of experiences that stretch our understanding, build our character and increase our compassion for others."
