Can't stand Caillou (whiney and irritating) or Max & Ruby (she's too bossy). We usually have on either PBS, TVO or CBC Playground (both are Canadian stations) and all are commercial free. Curious George is THE show right now and every night I read a few Curious George stories and when we go to the library my DD's are forever asking for "monkey".
There were educational shows when I was a kid but there was also a lot of "fluffy" shows that were there for pure entertainment. Depening on the channel I've found there seems to be more educational shows now than when I was a child. The fact that there are entire channels dedicated to children's programing and On Demand channels is amazing. I remember as a kid I got to see cartoons only on Saturday mornings and educational shows before and after school on either PBS or TVO.
Thank you Claire1977 for my adorable siggy
