Well on Tuesday I had my 40w2d appt with the midwives and they gave me the good news that my Hemoglobin had FINALLY gone up above 110 (it ended up being 121) This was amazing & surprising news because I had been having weekly blood draws and the week before my levels were 105.
I also asked for a cervical check because I was curious. The MW's said they don't recommend them but that they would perform one if I insited (I did) I was 3cm and still really thick and my cervix was still posterior.
After our appt Dh and I drove around to buy the remaining items that we would need for a home birth. (hose, tap adaptors, ect ect) So after all that we get home and set everything up, and around in the room that we would birth in. Turns out the adaptor didn't fit so DH knew he would have to go get another one.
Wed morning DH wakes up for his gym appt and I told him I had been woken up by a few 'ouchie' ctx's. But that I didn't know if it would end up being anything or not - so I told him to go to his appt. Turns out they continued so I told him he should go and get the proper adaptor because I was still contracting and they were getting intense.
I ended up calling the MW's @ 9:30 before DH even got home to say the ctx's were at least 5 min apart and 50 sec long. DH made it home and we called my parents to start the long 6 hr drive to meet us.
The MW made it to the house to check me out around 1030 and I was already 6cms and a little thinner. She left a bunch of her supplies (oxygen tanks, surgical boxes ect). Then she left and called the 2nd MW to say everything was Going down. The 2nd MW (Jess) made it to the house by 11.
SIL picked up Kaydan around 11, with supplies to make a birthday cake for baby.
Things really started picking up. just after Jess arrived I got in the birthing tub but it was too warm (and I think I was going into transition) so I was feeling weak/faint. So I got outta the tub and wow did that ever make things more intense. By probably around 12/1230 I was feeling that 'bearing down' was easing some of the discomforts of the ctx's. Then I felt like my water was going to break soon, I had that extra pressure - so I did some ctx's on the toilets and littlerly my waters 'popped'. It sounded like a pin hitting a ballon --and splashed like it too, even tho I didn't lose a lot of water (baby must have been blocking some of the water)
After that I moved back to the tub and things really progressed from there. It was less than an hour after my waterbroke that baby was in the canal. The MW's told me to feel for baby to help give me motivation. I felt and litteraly baby's head was like 2inches INside. Then honeslty the next ctx baby's head was crowning. He dropped THAT fast. as he was crowned they told me to hold for the next ctx to let my body adjust so I wouldn't tear ect. but my body had other plans, 1 ctx head was out, very next one his body was out and they were passing me my baby. What an amazing feeling!!
After all was said and done, baby Kolton took 4hrs of 'active' labor and he weighed 8lbs 2oz (MW and I were both guessing baby would weigh less than 7 1/2lbs) and 20.5 in long. He was born at 40w3d. It took us until today to finalize on his name, but decided on Kolton Asher Rhys
All in all the homebirth was amazing totally relaxing and calming. It was so nice not to have to drive to the hospital or transfer and be able to lay in my own bed so soon after birth. I did need to have some stiches as I re-opened my Episiotmy scar from my birth with DS. That and the after pains are the hardest part so far--and the sore nipples from feeding ouchie.
thanks for reading - sorry it's so long.
Thank you to Kiliki for my Siggy
