That's the thing about pregnancy, every one is different. They say you get a heightened sense of smell, and I've never really experienced that. Rather than actual "cravings" I have only noticed that I normally LOVE sweets and can't get enough, ever. Now however I much prefer salty/savory foods.
As for forbidden foods, I agree with a pp. Sounds like you have a good start with that book, but I would also go online to different sites and figure out why foods are sometimes or always on the forbidden list. Then make up your own mind. It's too bad your doctor wasn't more helpful, but there is so much info online that you should be able to make comfortable decisions.
The main ones for me are no: sushi (possible bacteria), cold cuts, raw eggs, or unpasteurized cheese (listeriosis). Limit caffieine (one cup of coffee or less per day); alcohol (haven't had any and probably won't - except a sip of punch I didn't know had vodka - oops!). That's all I really come across on a regular basis. Hope that's helpful!
