I thought i would join the gardening thread and share my composting tips with everyone
D/h and I Are starting to compost what we can for our Gardening that we will be doing each year.
D/h's Mom used to be a gardener So we called her with Questions about Gardening she told use everything she knew
If you have any Fresh fruit that is going bad the steps below should help with Composting
Fruits that has seeds must be taken out of before composting. Watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew melon, Apples, any oranges that have seeds,Peel all Strawberry's and any other fruit that has seeds. Just make sure any fruit that has seeds has to be removed from the fruit. Cut off fruit from the rind and Set aside in a bucket
On a cookie sheet put the rinds, banana peels & egg shells which must be crumbled with fingers first. Set your oven to 375 degrees let it warm up then put the cookie sheet in the oven for one hour. when that one hour is up take the cookie sheet out of the oven and let it set on top of the stove til cold. Take the compost off the cookie sheet and chop up finer with a food Processor, Dump the compost from the food processor in to the compost bucket. Be sure to take out the compost bucket every day so the the compost don't stink up the house Then after emptying the compost bucket Rise and it will be ready for more compost.
We have a big long tote that we have sitting in our garden that has worms, soil and the compost from the compost bucket in there. This will be used for next years seed starting. Our next step is to dig a big hole in the Garden area and Put some raw compost in the hole and put in on the garden At the end of each year and then till it in to get the ground ready for next years gardening Season.
please let me know if you have any Questions.
