Ok, I'd like to blame this on pain meds, but since I'm out, I can't.
How in the hell do you justify what the school did, as appropriate in ANY manner?
Based off what the SCHOOL said they did(mind you, those comments didn't come from the family, so, you can load that bs right back where it came from, not everything in those articles came from the father, or even the family-did you actually read them?). They asked the girl what it was and she, quite plainly, told them what it was. She didn't go into some detail about watching her daddy shoot monsters and bad guys. She didn't tell them about any incident at all that she actually witnessed her father shooting a gun. She did exactly what you'd expect most kids to do(especially at 4) and said what she drew, in as few words as possible.

How they got that the family, kids, whatever, were in some kind of danger, the father most definitely owned an illegal weapon, child protective services needed calling as did police, and the family needed to be split up, is beyond me. That's just...you know, I can't even describe it.

When ds was in kindergarten he drew a picture in the first week or so of school, about something that happened over summer vacation. What he drew was a picture of me, carrying watermelons(we'd just had a bonfire the week before at mom's...yadda, yadda..) to the tables from the garden, and he was showing me where to put them. When asked what it was, he described one of his favorite scenes from a movie he had just watched. I know, odd for a barely 5 yr old to say he was drawing a picture of baby with her melons, but, yanno....he's a kid, and he really wasn't paying much attention, he had the attention span of a grain of rice. Thankfully the teachers aren't complete morons. They knew exactly what he meant, except for the baby part-which I did explain(his teacher thought it was hilarious though, I still do, lol). They didn't realize he was describing a scene from dirty dancing-a movie he was watching before school that day. Sigh.

I suppose they COULD have overreacted and assumed he was talking about porn. The melons still had stem ends attached, they looked an awful lot like nipples, and the boobs were huge too, fetish perfect I'm guessing. The pic basically looked like me completely topless, with him next to me, grinning the biggest smile he's ever drawn, a small crowd of other people, all grinning too by what looked more like a stage than an actual set of tables. Could have been misconstrued in all kinds of ways. I suppose they could have thought I was exposing my child to porn-which is, of course, illegal.
Thankfully, despite what I may think of them at times, they do occasionally use that bump three feet above their ***, and it's contents.

I just don't understand for even a moment how anyone can justify any of the steps taken in this case. It really baffles me. How you can go from an innocent drawing of something a little girl probably looks up to her daddy for(scaring away the monsters and any potential bad guys) and turn it into such a circus, is just as unbelievable. I'm sure it's not the first time someone has overreacted like that, but it sure doesn't make it any easier to understand.
