Oh also wanna add that the fact he does kinda sorta latch should be taken as an accomplishment!
That's just how my girl started. Then she would latch and gently suck for a second...it very gradually moved up to longer attempts at this...then truly sucking for a minute, moving up until she was nursing for a full session without wanting/needing the shield back. But it was a slow process.
But whenever she got really fussy trying without it I immediately put it back on. I didn't want her to associate my breast with frustration
