I'm planning a water birth (I was last time too, but my labor was too fast and I never made it to the water- no complaints). I also mostly deal with water births as a doula. I am a big fan. I actually feel like it contains the mess and is easier to clean up after than a "land" birth. It does a pretty good job of "taking off the edge" when you need it the most in a non-invasive way.

As far as the concern from family- it's really none of their business. I don't really tell my family the details of my births. They never ask (just assume) about epidurals, pain relief, etc. They now assume mostly correct that I don't do drugs in labor because of the pictures they have seen on my website through my job. It's really your in-laws problem if they try to label you. It's ok to be different though. You have to admit, it's very different from the way most of our mother's birthed. But really I wouldn't talk too much about it until after the fact.

If it helps your MIL, you can call it the "Aquadural" lol
