It's possible to ovulate later than you thought. You can gear up to ovulate, feel ovulation symptoms, but it stalls, or doesn't happen at that moment. Honestly, because women are all so different, it is theoretically possible to get pregnant at any moment of your cycle. In rare cases, an egg can be fertilized and very soon after implantation, a second egg can be released, fertilized and boom you have "almost" twins.

I've gotten pregnant the day my period ended (#1), after 2 months of no periods (#2), a week after stopping the pill (#3), and by ovulating 8 days after a week of vacation sex with DH (#4). Anything can happen.
