I was just on Google images and clicked through to a site and all these warning messages came up purporting to be from Windows, telling me my computer was infected with spyware and trojans. A window popped up with a button offering to remove them. I found this fairly suspect and wouldn't like to click any button from a pop-up like that. McAfee, my active virus scan programme which I pay for, wasn't popping up with anything at all. So I decided to click "cancel" to try and get rid of the screen and then manually scan my computer myself.
When I clicked "cancel", a further pop-up appeared - a little grey box that would have run a setup.exe file had I clicked on it. Clicking the crosses in the corner of all these boxes (even on Firefox itself) wasn't working, so I hit control/alt/delete and closed Firefox down with Task Manager and they all disappeared. I then opened McAfee, which said all the virus scanning equipment was active and my computer was secure. I am running a full scan right now to double-check.
Did I do the right thing??
