There is always a little bit of LH in the system, so there is almost always a faint line on OPK's before and after ovulation. The lines get darker anytime there is a rise in LH, and become as dark or darker than the control when the LH surges.
The LH can rise and even surge without ovulation though. It just indicates the body has *attempted* ovulation, but doesn't confirm it. Only the mucus Peak and/or the temp pattern can confirm whether the attempt at ovulation was successful or not.
If you've got 283 days of charting though, you should be able to tell from the mucus pattern if Peak happened or not.
