I would ask the police their recommendation. I think your best bet will probably be to contact the credit bureaus (up here TransUnion and Equifax, not sure if it's the same for you) and have them flag your file.
Chances are, whoever stole it is going to wipe the drive anyway, but better safe than sorry.
