I love R&S for English!!! It has you diagramming right from the start, which really helps visual kids understand grammar (or it can be skipped for kids who aren't that type of learner). The 2nd grade book is very easy. They don't even start making worksheets & tests until book 3. Did you get those for her, or just the books? I like the worksheets, because you don't have to write out the questions from the text. You can use a worksheet to review, teach, or even to pre-test out of a lesson. The higher you get into the series, the more independent writing you do, too. (I have Ben type his rather than write it.) Ben's the only one using English right now. I'll start Daniel on 2 next year (Ben will be on 6 next year). They're deceptively easy in the first couple of books, but get much harder in the 5th. (Not sure if you're aware, but it only goes up to 10th grade, and the 9th & 10th grade books are college level.) We zipped through books 2 & 3 in one year, and then 4th and part of 5th in another year. We're going to finish 5th this year, and then probably take a break before starting 6th next year. I plan to take 2 years per book on 8 thru 10.
I haven't used McRuffy, so I can't comment on that one. I hope they like it!
Thanks to tasha_mae for my siggy!
