I am very sorry for your loss! I have had 2 losses, different from yours, one at 8 weeks and one at 12, but both times I have gone on to have successful pregnancies after each. I have a friend who had a similar situation however, she lost her baby girl at about 24 weeks, she went on to have a very healthy baby boy about a year after that loss. I do not know of any additional precautions. Do they know why that happened? A lot of times it is purely bad luck, which sounds terrible, but also means that you won't have to go through that again, unless there is some reason that they found that caused it. If that is the case, they should be able to take additional precautions for you, a cerclage, meds to keep early labor from progressing, in hospital bedrest, additional monitoring.

I also do not understand why they wouldn't stop labor, I have a doctor that would do so up until 36 weeks as well. I also suggest possibly talking to your doctor about it and even finding a new one.

Again, I am so sorry for your loss!! I wish you the best of luck!
