I also think it can be said that if you think you threw your back out it might be back labor. I had no clue what back labor felt like & I was in terrible back pain for a full 24 hrs (unable to sleep at all or hardly rest) and went to my Dr asking what to do (as I was only 37 weeks & no way on earth could I feel like *that* for a month. He *thought* I was probably in labor but didn't tell me because I was only at 2cm & he didn't want to get my hopes up if I wasn't.

But it is *slightly* annoying when I hear people say "Oh you'll know when you are in labor" because with #2 it was no different - back pain that just came on stronger & stronger & ti was constant - so NO defined contractions. You had to pay real close attention as they were subtle compared to the overall pain. I don't think in that case your 1st thought is labor. I thought labor pains would come & go & with back labor that isn't necessarily the case. :/
