Well, I haven't slept away officially, but I've been away a couple of days at a few births. Even though I co-sleep, I always do a bed time routine and put my babies to bed in their own bed first. Then I bring them to bed with me when I hit the bed a few hours later. My husband doesn't co-sleep with the kids, but it doesn't seem to bother them. I think they rely more on the bedtime routine than co-sleeping. I think the only reason he wants to sleep with me is so he can sleep nurse.
Even though Rowan hasn't gone yet, the other kids usually co-sleep with their grandparents when they sleep there until 3 or 4.
