My daughter is 7 months old and hasn't gotten a hebrew name yet because I just haven't been able to make up my mind. My grandmother told me to do it after my grandfather but I really don't want to because I neevr felt close to him. My father wants me to do it after my other grandmother, his mother, who died a month before Kaitlyn was born. But I really wasnt close to her either!

Is it appropriate at all to name her after noone? Like pick a name that sounds nice and has a good meaning and just name her that? I don't want to offend my relatives, but at the same time I don't want to name her after someone who I didn't know/feel close with.

Other possibilities include naming her after my great grandmother, who just had a baby named aftre her this year though. Or naming her after her paternal grandfather, who died a bunch of years ago, but my husband and his family isn't Jewish so is it approriate to give her a Hebrew name based on her grandfather if he wasnt Jewish?

Any advice would be nice!
