My almost 12 year old son has dyslexia and dysgraphia. The dysgraphia is honestly the worse problem for him. He's been homeschooled all his life, but now he's in public school (6th grade which is middle school here) so we're navigating the experience of getting him accommodations. He'll likely just have a 504, but they won't decide for sure if he needs an IEP or 504 until he is retested (it's been almost 3 years since he was last tested and they require a new test every three years). I hadn't even heard of a 504 until we moved here. We have our first meeting a week from tomorrow. Luckily, until then, the teachers are really good about interpreting his writing and working with him to help him succeed. We have a fabulous school district here thank goodness.
