I haven't done Atkins but I have tried low carb once and it wasn't for me. What I was doing was low carb and low fat though and I know Atkins lets you eat more fat. I think it may work better because trying to cut fat and carbs was just too hard for me. I found that I felt nauseous almost the whole time I did it and since I was barely eating any carbs I didn't have the energy to workout.
BUT, I've had quite a few friends lose weight doing Atkins, alot of weight, so I don't think it's a bad diet. Like Kristy said though, I'm not sure you could do it for life. But, I think it could help you lose weight if you can follow it. I don't know enough about the diet to know how they transition after you lose weight and move to maintenance.
