I did not nor felt I needed one for the first two deliveries. Baby #3 I had a strong desire/instinctive feeling that I should have one, but that feeling didn't show up until about a month before delivery and I didn't have a chance to find one. That labor was rough and I do wish I had a doula (homebirth with a midwife). Baby #4 I hired a doula but ended up with a hospital c/s delivery. My doula was fantastic afterwards. She came and sat with me for a long time and helped me process all the emotions arising from the unexpected delivery and helped me through the early part of recovery when my husband was passed out and my mom had gone to help my other girls. I'm very grateful I had her available.
