My birth center also allowed you to take your own swab. My midwife recommended a garlic treatment, which was... interesting? I got a negative result. I'm not sure if it was because of the garlic or I was negative anyway, but it didn't hurt. It did put me off garlic for a few days though.
I've heard good things about the probiotics too. I prefer not to use antibiotics for ANYTHING unless it's absolutely necessary so I was happy not to have to use them (my birth center's policy is that you can decline the test/decline the IV antibiotics, but if you do either of those things you'll need to deliver at the hospital with the midwife instead and you'll need to stay an extra 24? I think? hours to monitor the baby).
Honestly, the whole test is a bit bunk since a positive or negative several weeks before the birth is subject to change whether you change anything or not. The link that SCMomma shared has a lot of great information!
*Excitedly expecting baby girl number two!
