My MIL and FIL said that they were thinking of taking us to court for visitation rights to the kids because they asked us if they could take the kids out of state for a week or two and we said no. My hubby and I are concerned for the kids safety because if they get hurt we would like to make sure we are there to take care of them but the inlaws will not allow us to go. Sounds very wrong to me. We checked with our lawyer and she said that the state of SC will not give them visitation at all unless the kids lives depend on them seeing their grandparents. My DH told them that if they proceeded to think about this that they would lose all of us forever because the kids have been through enough. Truthfully, the kids don't like going over to their house or spending any time over there because all the IL's do is watch tv and make the kids sit at a table and do puzzles. I am not going to make them do anything that they don't want to. I thought that everything was going so well but I guess that I was wrong. Are DH and I wrong for not wanting to let the kids go out of state (8 hours away) without us being there with them?? What if they get hurt and need us & etc?? Doesn't it sound fishy that my IL's want to take the kids and pitch a fit that they can't go and then we tell them we can all go and they don't want me and DH there? This is so frustrating.
Help!! I need some type of insight with this!
