Have you thought about making baby food v. buying it in the jar? I don't know if you guys have discussed this somewhere else before, but that's what my family has always done. Granted, I don't have babies yet (soon, soon), but my mum always just blendered parts of dinner and canned them. Or she's go crazy on produce that was on sale, and then she'd have 'let's make baby food night' where she cooked it all, mashed or pureed it, and canned everything for shelf storage. If you don't like canning, I suppose you could freeze it.
