adoption or fostering and military/full time jobs

Is anyone military that does foster to adopt or adoption?
How did it work out?

On a non miltary note does one parent have to be a SAH parent to be able to enter these programs? I am mostly just wondering for future. Thank you.

We're not military so I can't really give you specific advice about that. But for us, while we were fostering Ellie before the adoption was final, we couldn't take her out of the state without special permission. I would think this might* be an issue for military families if you start fostering and then get transfered. Probably not a deal breaker, but like I said I'm no expert. It's just a thought.

As far as being a SAH parent...No you don't have to be. But the state or foster care agency would have to approve of your child care arrangements and I'm sure the details of that vary a lot state by state.

Hope that helps. :)

Well our daycare provider requires that the child be a dependent so I honestly don't know how that would work. Being on base and all. I would have to do more research. I just didn't know if our current situation would make it impossible or not. Thank you for the response.

We're not military, but I do know a number of people who are and do foster care. I think you can work it out.

And for the SAH question. We are not SAH parents. You do need a rather understanding job sometimes depending on what type of fostering you do. Some of the kids have a lot of appointments and such. But they work with you, of course.
