I'm new here and I was wondering what the process is for adoption.
My husband and I have one child already and are ttc for a second one but adoption might be the only way to go for us.
A friend of mine's daughter is pregnant and they are trying to get her to give it up for adoption (it's complicated).
They live in a different state. I know that we would need a home study and a lawyer.
What is the exact process and is it more complicated because we're in a different state? Does the lawyer have to be licensed in their state, our state, both?
Also, we live in an appartment and I'm worried that that will hinder us in our adoption process.
What does the home study look at? I'm terrified about that.
Hi and welcome to the group. I can't really answer the specifics, but I know inter-state adoption is very common these days. We have good friends who just adopted from California (we're in TX) and the only real added work they had to do was stay in CA for a week to get all the paperwork processed. The rest was the same as if they'd adopted from here.
