To train up a child

Have you heard of this DISGUSTING book?! I didn't until recently, and I actually teared up reading some of the quotes on line. I cannot, and I mean CANNOT believe anyone writes this, listens to it and parents this way. It makes me wish I was a multi billionaire and I could save all the kids who are treated this way.

Re: To train up a child

I just started reading the first sentence of the webpage and saw the name "Pearl" and I knew what this was. I don't have to read it, I've heard about the Pearls, and read the news stories about horribly abused children rescued from homes where the parents said they followed the Pearls' philosophy.

Sadly I feel like these methods were once common in other places and times. When similar abuse of animals and oppressed servants or slaves was just ported over to children. It seems like nowadays no one should be ignorant enough to treat children like that.

You know what, forget the child's wellbeing for a moment. What does this do to the parent who parents this way? What kind of monster are you, or do you become when you deliberately terrorize a small person like that? How do you sleep at night?

If violence is the only way someone can set limits or deal with strong emotions from their small child, then I'm sorry, they are a seriously messed up individual.

I never heard of the Pearls! So this is completely new to me. I cannot even put into words the sadness I feel.

Unfortunately I've heard of this before and have encountered people who parent this way :(

Lost, you know someone that parents that way?! I would cut ties with them immediately. I would NOT be able to handle that at all. Just reading it made me sad. Sad is not even a strong enough word. I literally started to tear up and got seriously emotional when I was reading it. I did not read it all because it was TOO much. I am absolutely appalled that ANYONE would do this to their child. There have been a few cases where the child died due to this parenting style.

Nauseating. Thru and thru. Those people belong in jail. That book should be treated as a manual on child abuse. I am revolted.

What gets me is how the heck was that book even published?! I want to ask the person that did and ask him / her if they are insane...?

I mean, the elderly are kinda like kids. Not all, but some. They can forget things, act out, forget to use the toilet and what have you. Would you hit your Grandmother because she is not "perfect"?...Give me a break!

Ugh. It saddens me that people are so misguided in this way. I thought I heard about parents being arrested for abuse in certain cases following this man's books.

Re: To train up a child

Wth! Why would anyone spank a 4 month old and how is that not child abuse. Some people irritate me so much, why did those people even have kids? The twins go to the nursery at their dads church but sometimes they cry so I stay with them. This one baby cried for 10 minutes so they called her mom and the mom said just let her cry she needs to learn and the baby cried for an hour and then passed out

Barf. I just don't understand why some people even have children at all.

Re: To train up a child

I hate how those type of people (do not mean to label anyone...but really) always think their way is right. I mean, I feel like my way is right BUT I am not hurting my child. I am not making him cry, I am not leaving marks on his body. SO I just do NOT get it.
