FINNEGAN

Gender: Masculine

Usage: Irish, English (Modern)

Pronounced: FIN-ə-gən

From an Irish surname which was derived from Ó Fionnagáin meaning "descendent of Fionnagán". The name Fionnagán is a diminutive of FIONN. This was the name of a character in James Joyce's novel 'Finnegans Wake' (1939), the title of which was based on a 19th-century Irish ballad called 'Finnegan's Wake'.

WDYT?

I like Finnegan. It's such a great Irish name! However, my favorite Finn name is Finnian. Finnegan is my 2nd Finn choice.

LOVE! I prefer Fionnagán though (the "o" is silent, in case anyone is wondering).

I had this name on my list for a very long time and was intent on using it for boy number two... until I found out that there's a character in Harry Potter named Seamus Finnegan. *sigh* So I had to scrap it. We're going with Conan instead for boy #2. But I still really want to use a Fin- name if we ever have a THIRD boy. Probably Finlay or Finley.

I like Finnegan. But I like Finn on it's own too. I've been looking into adding new names to my boys list, I may consider Finnegan.

Niamh-Oh don't scrap Fionnagan! No one will ever know about the HP connection! I say use it! I think it works beautifully with Seamus!

I already get people asking me if we got Seamus' name from HP, lol. So I'm pretty sure I'd get more comments if we named a son Fionnagán or Finnegan. :P

It's a shame though, because I *do* really think Seamus and Fionnagán go great together. :P
