When did you start?op

Hey, new here, my name is Megan and my lovely daughters name is Willow.

When did you start teaching your LO to sign? When did you start getting good responses?
I know im thinking way too far ahead as Willow is a month old, but i dont wanna be ill prepped to start.

What would be a good starter reference?

we started when he was a few mnths old. they (whomever "they" is) not to start until they are 6 mnths old b/c you will get frustrated not getting a sign back for a long time if you start sooner. i think thats bull-hockey, b/c we started and of course were pretty lax at it sometimes, but he gets a LOT of signs now! i wouldnt dream of starting so late. as long as you know not to expect soooooo soo much, (like any other part of life in general), you cant get dissapointed! ya know?

where to start, i did a search, found some site that shows the vid; sign and word all at the same time. works awsome. we dont plan on being fluent by any stretch of the mind, and what we need, we look up and use.

I started pretty early with Rebecca... maybe like 2-3 months, and she started using her signs at about 9 months. And then she was still communicating mostly with sign when Elias was born, so he started at birth (and signed later than she did... I think around 12 months), and he is still communicating with a lot of signing, and minimal speaking. :P I don't think it is ever "too early" to use signs, but I do think they pick them up a lot faster around 6-12 months than they do at 1-6 months.

Generally baby starts it at 5th or 6th month. At this age they pick signs a lot faster.

Hi. I'm new here too and just bumping around. We have started because of "issues" and I wish we would have started soon. My little one lost language skills and we are hoping and praying they return. In the meantime, we've started learning sign language at the recommendation of specialists and he's picking up on it really well, almost quicker than I can learn it. He's 20 months old.

We started from the beginning with "milk" and added others as they came to me. In an all-signing home, babies can and will sign as early as 3 months old, so starting anytime is awesome!y 10 year old and husband learned all the same signs, so it's also never too late!!

I started signing "Milk" to her around 4-5 months while I was feeding her.

She just recently caught on for good! She's almost 13 months! Just be consistent!
