Pregnant with Mirena??

So here's my story. I had the Mirena put in in May after my daughter was born. My doctor never told me that for the first month or so I should've used back-up protection. I did my research before getting it and didn't come across that on their website either. Well, I have had a two "semi" periods. They only last about 2 days and aren't as heavy as usual. Lately, I have not been feeling like myself. I never seem to get full anymore. I'm always eating. I have had to pee alot. Like every hour or two. And my boobs seem to have gotten bigger. I have heard that getting pregnant with an IUD is rare, but I also looked it up on Google and found out that alot of women have actually gotten pregnant with Mirena in place. Most of the time it happens because the IUD slips into the wrong spot. I can never feel the threads either. Has anyone else ever gotten pregnant on an IUD? Do you girls think that I should test?? Any opinion helps. Thanks girls!

Ive had the mirena for 3 yrs and I have taken HPT randomly to clear my head of the fear of being pregnant. I took one every 3-6 months because my periods were so light I wasnt sure they even counted.

I didn't but i personally know someone who did. Take a test to ease your mind.

From what I know, that isn't true. That's more related to the Ring or the Pill. From my understanding Mirena begins working immediately, aslong as it is inserted at the right time. I believe it's after or during the end of your period. I'm thinking to ensure there is nothing to be fertilized. In your case you just had your daughter so you didn't ovulate, so I wouldn't be worried. Mirena should have worked immediately....

Take a test to clear your mind!

Also rememebr that Mirena doesn't always prevent fertilization, just implantation.

Re: Pregnant with Mirena??

I had Mirena put in about 8-10 weeks after my daughter was born (she was born mid April and I had it put in the end of June). I was breastfeeding and didn't really get a period before it got put in. My midwife told me it was effective immediately (I was on the mini pill since having my daughter)... She also informed me that there is a lot of irregular spotting for the first 3-4 months or so... I haven't gotten anything I would consider a "period" just some light spotting at irregular intervals. Sometimes I worry about being preg, though, especially after watching some of those "I didn't know I was pregnant" episodes! I would say for peace of mind, if you're worried, definitely take a test!

Since the original post was July 24th.... I am guessing she has her answer. ;) Just wanted to throw in that my doctor told me to use condoms for the first week just to be safe. It "should" be effective immediately--but the rate of it expelling is higher and that gives it a little time to start getting in your system.

My sister got pregnant while on the copper iud and she had to go get it removed asap and she did. she carried a healthy full term baby girl who's now 2years old. the doctor at that time told her that she might miscarry or might not.
