Anyone else have kids who waste food/drinks??

It drives me INSANE!!!!!!!

I usually buy cases of water and those single juice packets. Our water is community well and tastes gross. I constantly find water bottles with juice sitting around that nobody will claim. I tried having permanent markers laying around and telling them to mark their bottles. But that didn't keep up and I don't have time to be the water bottle nazi!

They have friends over and their friends also waste our stuff. So now I have been telling them when they have friends over they can offer them tap water in a glass! Or they can make a pitcher of juice with tap water (we do have some mixes for pitchers full too).

When we run out I wait a while before buying more juice packets and just tell them they shouldn't have wasted so many. Then I hear them complain. They still do it when I buy them again. Plus I also find half drank plain water bottles laying around too.

Any ideas???

We usually don't have that problem but this summer has been bad. We have really bad tasting water too so we drink all bottled. I went into dd's bedroom that she & dsd are sharing & found 6 bottles of half drunk water. ugh! Thankfully it will end when dsd goes home & the kids go back to school.

We had to be water bottle nazis before we moved. It's not fun! We eventually got a Brita pitcher and filter and it solved most of the problems - it meant my 5 yo dsd couldn't get her own water because it was too heavy (it was too heavy for my 8 yo dss when it was full too) but we didn't get as frustrated if we had to pour water down the sink. Is that an option for you? I've never used water from a well and so I'm not sure if it can be filtered or not.

They rarely waste juice boxes, but we find large bottles of juice to be more efficient for us anyway. I would mix a pitcher full if that's an option for you. It would allow you to pour half glasses to kids who chronically don't finish full bottles - I only have 1 stepchild who I pour full glasses of anything to.

Food waste is sometimes and issue but much like with drinks, the best remedy has been smaller portions in the first place (and telling them to ask before they throw anything out :smackshead: my 8 yo dss would throw out whole strips of bacon if he didn't eat them at breakfast).

Our kids are the same. We make them write their names on bottle and cups and they still waste the juice. I refuse to buy bottled water or individual juice boxes. I buy the super sized jugs from bj's wholesale. Yet, these kids can run through a super sized container of apple juice in 2 days or less. It drives me nuts. What I do when they waste that stuff is that I have them make ice tea or lemonade. They still waste, but I can get more bang for my buck by buying large containers of those and having them mix their own drinks. I honestly don't think anything can be done. I would love to say it's a certain age, but my kids range from 7-16 and all three do it.

My friend has had that issue. Everyone started out with a cup that was either marked with their name or very specialized for each kid (tinkerbell for the girl, racing for one boy, toy story for the other) and THAT is what you drink out of. The bottled water went into the cups.

never an issue with drinks. Reme is a little liquid monster and his drinks rarely last more than a minute or two.

But we do have issues with food... it's a sensory thing, he has to have a certain amt, even if he won't eat it, or he just won't touch it. *sigh*

We are all guilty in our house of half filled water bottles. We are on well too. We can't yell at the kids when we do it ourselves. Juice is never a problem they suck that down!

Yes, it's a huge problem here. I am constantly pouring out milk or juice and soda. And now with the babies climbing onto the table and pouring things out, it is an even bigger problem.

If I know who's drink it was (and since they have to ask for sodas cause they only get one a day, I usually know who left theirs), they are not allowed to have soda for the rest of the week, even if it's Sunday. If it's water or juice or milk in a cup, I make them finish it before they get up from the table.

It sounds mean, but I'm tired of pouring money down the sink or cleaning up messes.

O does this occasionally. We have a brita pitcher too. But there are always half cups of juice laying around the house.

His big thing though is food. He will eat all of his side dishes and then be "too full" for his main course. I've taken to putting his main course in a ziplock and when he asks for a snack 30 minutes later, hand him whatever it was that he didnt finish before.

Or for the summer I would JUST give him a sandwich for lunch and once he finished that he could pick something else to have.

Our water is so bad that a Brita doesn't work. But I'm thinking of getting a water cooler.

I think it's a typical kid thing.

I don't buy water botles. I got a filer for the faucet and use that, no wasted money that way, and the juice boxes are limited to them asking me first
