food stealing????

I am not much of a new mom as much as a mom with a new problem.
I noticed that my 7 year old son has been gaining a lot of weight just in the last month. Tonight I figured out why. I went to get my girls their ice cream from last night, and my son wanted ice cream too, so I went to get into the fridge to get him an ice cream sandwich, and of the 5 that should have been in there the box was empty. So I told him that he wasn't getting a treat tonight. Well I thought that was the end of it. I had the kids brush their teeth, and sent them to bed like normal. My 5 year old came out and told me that Nicky was eating cookies in his room. I figured he had gotten into my cookies, wrong again. He had gone into the basement and gotten and eaten an entire box of Girl Scout cookie from the chest freezer.
I am at a loss of what to do. HELP!!!!

My 6(7 in September)year old does similar things. She has gained weight as well. I believe that it's possible to be going through a growing period though not necessarily just a physically. I also know that unless I literally lock things up that I would not like her getting into they will be eaten but unlike your case her brother can't tell on her. If you can try giving your son more to eat. My daughter eats as much as most adults. I know that sounds like a lot but she's only 52lbs and 3'10.5". The only thing I can think is to offer more foods and try not to let him have the cookies/junk at his "disposal." I realize these weren't given to him or for him to get into. Kids' appetites honestly amaze me some days.

I think sometimes it is really hard to tell what he actually needs, I try to always have healthy snacks on hand for him to choose from, like fruit cheese sticks and cut up veggies. He is eating so much right know at this point he is eating more than me and I am breastfeeding. I don't know the little booger just gets really frustrating.
