Elective Ultrasounds for Gender

Does anyone else plan on going to a ultrasound center to find out the gender earlier than your doc's anatomy scan? We plan on going at 15 weeks. There is a place by us that guarantees finding the gender so if the baby is hiding we can keep going back for free. :p

Maybe! I'll have to see if I can find some place around here...
I can't wait to find out!! How much does something like that cost?

Re: Elective Ultrasounds for Gender

I don't think we have any place like that around here. But I will probably just have to stick with ultrasounds that are covered by insurance. These babies are already going to be emptying my pocket book!!! :D

Re: Elective Ultrasounds for Gender

we have lots of places around us! It's $50 for a 2D ultrasound (gender) then we will probably go back later on (24 weeks+) to do a 4D ultrasound. Those are $99. I think it's pretty darn cheap compared to what doctor's offices charge! YEESH! I've fully accepted that we will just bleed money for the next 20 odd years ;)

Re: Elective Ultrasounds for Gender

ajcbaby...that's not so bad. Maybe I should do some checking. I was thinking that it would be an astronomical price since it's purely elective.

In my area you can get an elective 2d scan for $75 at an ultrasound boutique and a 3d/4d before 20w for $140 with a cd and a book of pictures

Re: Elective Ultrasounds for Gender

We might do the genetic blood test instead of the quad screen which will give us the gender definitively.

I need to see if insurance will be covering it

Re: Elective Ultrasounds for Gender

Elleon17, I am planning on getting the genetic test too. My docs office said that you get the results back in 10 days! I think you can do it as early as 10 weeks! My insurance doesn't take effect until June 1, so I'll have to wait until at least then. They quoted me a price of roughly $1500 to self pay. Yikes! I think I'll wait the couple of weeks- even though I know they will drag on forever!:p

Nah. If we don't find out early, we'll just wait.

Re: Elective Ultrasounds for Gender

We're not sure if we're finding out the gender, so no special ultrasounds for sure :)

Props to all you patient ladies who can wait until 20 weeks or even until the baby is born!! :O

Hopeful2BMommy May 8th, 2014 04:52 PM

We will go at 16 weeks.

I'm hoping to find out with the Harmony or MaterniT21.

Re: Elective Ultrasounds for Gender

My anatomy scan is at 18 weeks, so I don't have to wait quite as long as others. With my third and fourth babies though I had a random ultrasound between 16-17 weeks where we found out the gender. Hoping that happens again! lol

I'm team green so I won't be doing an elective lol. We will find out in December :)

HeartHelloKitty May 8th, 2014 08:01 PM

I'll be doing the blood test next week actually. My blood draw is Wednesday at 10 weeks and she said we should have results in about a week. I probably will pay for an elective 3D ultrasound just because DH wants one. :)

I am team green too! Although I would love to see baby in 3D!

How do you even find a place that does them?

Re: Elective Ultrasounds for Gender

My dr office does it at 17weeks for $50 but there is a lady a town over that does it at 15weeks for same price and on weekends so since dh can't go during the week I'm going to do it through her :)

I'm tempted! I went private with DS2 and it was a really special moment. I'll see how long I can resist for with this little one
