Given (just for arguement sake) that dh has perfect timing every time and we only BD every other day, so therefore any leftover sperm from the previous ejaculation would be washed out or killed off by urine, which BC would be more or less effective? The mini pill or withdrawal? I am BF but dd is 9 months and on some solids. My cycle hasn't returned. I plan to nurse until she weans naturally...hopefully not til like 2yrs old. I have an appt. with my ob next week who briefly mentioned over the phone that once my cycle returns, I shouldn't take the mini pill anymore because it's not effective enough. Has anyone ever heard this or know someone to get preg on the mini pill? I know people have gotten preg on the regular pill but I have been on it for years prior and never gotten preg on it. I don't want an IUD or anything else and kind of hope in like a yr from now we get an oops baby. I know DH would never plan another because we have 4 (2 are from a previous marriage of his) so the only way this mama is getting another is if it's an oops baby.
Also.....my cycle hasn't returned but I've been feeling myself "rev" up for a while and mimic cycles. I have been really bloated for about a week and feeling a little achy in my lower abdomen so I took an ovulation test to see if I was by chance, having an LH surge and was in process of O. It was positive! Does this mean I will def O? Also, I then took a pregnancy test and within like 3 seconds I swear I saw two lines......so much so that I ran to call my mom in panic. There was even color... I came back and it was completely gone! I ra to the drug store to take another and it was deff negative! Are my losing my mind? It was so positive to me that I was already anticipating how I was going to handle everything and then it slowly faded. (it was never extremely dark..just noticable a little bit) By the time 10 minutes was up....gone. The test I took after, as I said (also a different brand but also an EPT) was negative. I doubt I would be preg because we have not been BD much and have been using withdrawal....no more than once, every 3 days. IO've used it with dh before and never gotten preg and he has used it in 2 past relationships and never gotten them preg.
I gave birth to my daughter in sept..and was breastfeeding and was put on the mini pill..My period returned in normal time despite breastfeeding and I was never told about the possibility of pregnancy being increased after my period started..well..I am currently almost 11 weeks pregnant..My children will be less than a yr apart...Although I can say the pull out method is just as risky..If youre looking at birth control thats safe for breast feeding I'd check into condoms..LOL..not the most comfortable I know..but I suppose its better than gambling on the pull out method..
If your daughter is on some solids and is no longer exclusively breastfeeding it is no longer a reliable form of birth control even if you haven't gotten a period yet. You can O and get pregnant without having had a period.
The withdrawal method isn't concidered a reliable form of birth control either. You can look into using a natural family planning method like FAM if you do not want to use medical birth control. You know the old joke about people who use the withdrawal method? "What do you call people who use withdrawal method? Parents." well it's actually pretty true. Research shows that 4 out of 100 women will become pregnant in 1 year if it's ALWAYS used correctly and in practical application 27 out of 100 women will get pregnant in 1 year.
