Hi

I just wanted to leave a note for some advice from people from this website.

I have had one really late period in December 2011 (last menstrual cycle) I was over 1 week late and it was a smaller and shorter than normal period than usual. It was scary it was so late because my entire life I get it like the 18th of every month and i didn't get it till the 26th.

It is now the 5th of Feb, almost the full first week gone - no period at all for January. I have had no period from the 29th of December. So i took a home pregnancy that says I am not pregnant.

Its this normal? I am 28 years old and only missed a period when my first son was born in 2007.

Also - over the Christmas period I have been drinking, smoking pot, and taking anti anxiety medication and also Valium for various reasons unaware of the possibility I'm pregnant.

Usage was not in excess or huge doses but use was somewhat regular. I now fear if I am pregnant... would it even be an option to carry the baby full term knowing I unknowingly drank, tool prescription drugs and got stoned whilst possibly pregnant.

I have read a number of articles on this site and apparently women miss periods all the time...and as I have done a home pregnancy test a few days ago and it came back negative... this may all be in vain, but still I would appreciate some advice on what I should do from here.

My plan is to retest again tomorrow and then make an appointment with my GP Monday morning if I still do not have my period.

Thanks in advance and I look forward to reading all your responses.

Sincerely,

Emma

I was told by my gyno that it is normal to not have a period if you have been on the pill long term. Have you been on the pill? I was like you and completely freaked about missing 2 periods. I was convinced that I was pregnant even though I had 3 home pregnancy tests tell me neg and a dr test tell me neg. It turned out I wasn't but found out that I wanted another one and we are expecting in July!! Good Luck

I would say if the tests say negative most likely you are not pregnant.
I was just freaking out too because AF was over 2 weeks late for me which isn't normal for me. Another person in my PR pointed out you can only really consider yourself "late" if you actually know when you ovulated and your period didn't show up 14 days later. A lot of things can make your period late, weight loss/gain, stress, hormone imbalance. If your tests aren't coming back positive try not to stress too much.
Now... if you are pregnant I doubt that your previous drug and alcohol use would effect the embryo much if at all. I would tell your doctor about it if you find you are pregnant but I don't believe you would have harmed the baby at this point, especially since if you did those things around the Christmas period and your last cycle started the dec 26th... even if you were pregnant now you wouldn't have been then. And because now you know that it is a possibility you should avoid those things until you have a definate answer.
Let us know how your testing goes. Good luck!
