i had an OB appointment today. they did an u/s to check fluid levels and doppler (not sure about that) and everything was great. then the doctor offered to strip my membranes as my cervix was already dialated 2cm and 80% effaced. i couldnt resist!

anyone had this done? how long after did you go into labour?

i was also booked in for my induction if i need it on the 6th of aug. hopefully i wont have to wait that long!!!!

I had this done, with the same effacement and dilatation. I had been having fairly regular 10 mins apart contractions for 2 days. Cramped really badly afterwards. My water broke a few hours later and I was in labor by the time we got to the hospital. Good luck!

I had my membranes stripped with the first two and I had them the next day. I walked a lot after they stripped the membranes hoping to bring on more contractions. I don't know for sure if that is what did it, but something worked. Good luck!!

what does that mean strip your membranes? I have had 3 daughters and they have broken my waters for the last 2 (long ago). Is that stripping? did it hurt?

its where the doctor sweeps his finger between the sac of membranes and the inside of the uterus. think of two balloons, one inside the other and the inside one is attached to the outside one. you put your finger in the hole and sweep it around 360degrees to separate it.
some women find it excrucitating, i just found it a little uncomfortable, kinda like a smear.

i need all your labour vibes ladies!

i'm actually looking forward to the pain now! i think this is natures way of making you ready for childbirth: make you so excited and uncomfortable and then when you feel the contractions you'll be so relieved that its nearly over you wont even complain till it gets really bad, and by then you're in the hospital with lots of drugs available!
