As much as I am pro life, I am pretty horrified by some pro life ads. Today while driving through town, with my 2-year-old, we pulled up at a red light next to a very large truck. There was ad on the side of the truck, that my 2-year-old was staring at. So I turned to look at it.. and nearly threw up.

It was a picture of an 10-week gestation aborted fetus.. in pieces, blood everywhere, with the word "CHOICE?" in quotes next to it.

w.t.f.? My TWO YEAR OLD was staring at a desecrated fetus, and there was no way I could get him away from it.

It was sponsored by this company: http://www.abortionNO.com I don't recommend going to their site, because on the first page is a graphic abortion video.

As pro life as I am, and as supportive of free speech as I am... part of me thinks that mutilated corpses should not be allowed to be on the side of trucks driving around urban areas. And I also don't understand how showing these pictures and videos is supposed to convince people considering abortion to change their mind.. or to convince the pro-choice crowd to change their stance. How does shocking, horrifying, and probably grossing people out really help anything...?

Not to mention the complete lack of sensitivity to people who lost their baby at their gestation due to nature rather than choice.. I'm sure they all LOVED to see that ad as well.

I don't think I will ever get that image out of mind, and I can only hope that my 2-year-old couldn't figure it out.

Honestly, even though it may be disturbing, it is showing reality. I think too many people have no idea what really happens.

My main issue is that it's on the side of a truck driving around down town in a suburban area. I really don't think that 5-10 year olds needs to know the reality of abortion.

I agree with that, I wouldn't want to have to explain that to my kids at their current ages. But I don't think they can get the true message out to people without young kids possibly seeing it too.

Most pictures of fetuses used by pro-life groups are pictures of stillborn and miscarried fetuses. Just thought I'd let you know - it's not always showing reality as in abortion, but more as exploiting the pain and hurt of the mothers of those that were stillborn and miscarried and completely twisting a photo's real origins to suit their "cause".

One of the reasons why I do not respect the pro-life groups that use such emotional and disgusting proproganda that just ends up hurting people, especially the mothers of the children that these groups stole photos of and cruelly use them to further their cause. Disgusting.

Well, the fetus on the side of this truck was in pieces, so I'm while I'm not 100% what happened to it, I have my suspicions. it's was brutally graphic. For me, it's not even about *explaining" it to my children, it's about my children seeing that.. period. I can't imagine a five year old looking at the picture and being okay with it. I was horrified, and nearly vomited.. and I don't have an especially weak stomach.

And I will never understand why it's okay to show these graphic and pretty horrific photos on the side of a truck, when there's no way they could get away with showing the blood and gore and corpse of an adult human, or even of an animal. So much for a fetus being a person and deserving of respect.

I'll just ditto Andrika. Nearly ALL those pictures are miscarried fetus's, which by definition are spontaneous abortions.

I don't see how that can possibly be allowed to be displayed so publicly.

Society is all up in arms about violence, guns, sex, porn etc.... on t.v. because their kids will see it/may see it however this is allowed? Disgusting.

I object mainly because it's just a stupid argument. Sure, assuming that the photos are genuinely of aborted fetuses, they've proved abortion is pretty gross. So what? Andrew watched my first c-section, and says it was pretty gross, does that mean by definition that giving birth to Leo was immoral? No.

Abortions are gross, surgery is gross, miscarriages are pretty gross too. Most of what happens to and inside the human body is gross. That's biology, not a moral statement.

Yuck. Not something I would want to see, or especially children.

I think it's sick when people do that and subject children to that content. Yeah, I'm an adult and can take it, but do not want my child to wonder what abortion is at her age.

I'll go ahead and share a story even though it's personal, and people might disagree with me. I had an abortion a year and a half ago. We were warned that there would be picketers there when we came back to the clinic, so I was ready for that.

What I was NOT ready for was this mother with her two young children, the oldest couldn't have been much older than 5/6, the younger was probably around 3/4. They are holding up signs of aborted fetuses, and then the kicker happens.... the children say in unison as we walk by "Please don't kill your baby, your baby loves you, please come talk to us" as the mother is pleading with me and my boyfriend to please come talk to her and come to God and forgive myself and give my baby life... I was shaking I was so pissed. I wanted to yell at her that the most horrific thing happening that day was not my abortion that impacted no one but myself and my boyfriend, but instead, it was subjecting her young children to that content. I was appalled. I just can't even begin to think where a mother would think that is okay for her children to go through. The adults can do it all they want, that is theiir right just as much as it is my right over my own body... but the kids???? **shakes head**

Ugh. That is a horrible person and story.

I think I've posted this before, but eh I'll repeat myself. About 10 days after I found out I was having a miscarriage (I miscarried naturally and was still bleeding) those protesters came to my town. I was on my lunch break and went to get something and drive past these huge signs of "aborted fetuses" I had to pull over because I was sobbing so much. I mean, like most women, I had my initial "THE WORLD IS EVIL" phase but I was moving on and excepting it and then BOOM! those pictures are shoved in my face.

I am 100% prochoice, but I understand the pro-life argument. I don't think they need to go to such drastic measures. It is sick.

While I think seeing that on the side of a truck is absolutely gross, I do think that a lot of people believe that a vacuum quickly swoops in and sucks a lump of shapeless cells out of a woman's uterus that later would turn into a baby if left past the legal first trumester.
While I am 100% pro-choice, I wish people would make more informed decisions. I wonder how many women have abortions thinking a ball of cells is being removed, and then how many actually know that arms and legs are being ripped off of a fetus that looks remarkably like a tiny baby. I think at the very least the reality should be shown as part of sexual education.

Personally I'm pro-choice but I do agree with what you are saying. Scare tactics and shock value doesn't get a point across to anybody. And to put an ad like that up where children can see it is just horrible.

That's horrible, and I'd be PISSED if my son/daughter saw that! DS isn't old enough yet, but I know my nephew would get scared from everything and have nightmares a lot. This isn't something they should be seeing at all.

So you are okay with it? What about getting the message out about safe sex? Should we have pictures of people having sex with condoms on the sides of trucks?

I thinkits horrifying. I'm not sure where you live keskes, but I KNOW that would not fly around here. One of my coworkers husband's works for GEICO (the insurance company) and their was a silhouette of the little lizard. Well someone put electrical tape on it to make it look like it had an erection. Her husband was pulled over and told to remove it...obviously he didn't know it was there. Now, whether he was pulled over b/c it was a company car or not, I don't know. But I have a feeling some officer could find some reason to hand over at least a ticket.

I agree. I honestly didn't realize how soon fetuses look like babies until I was pregnant and looked at it week by week.

I agree that those pics are horrendous. But they are examples of free speech. I just try to avoid planned parenthood on my errands, just in case the kids see that kind of thing. I guess if we ever did, and mine were still little, I would have to make something up. I mean, how could you explain that to a 3 or 4 year old! I think those pics are lies anyway.
