Lost: The power of women having any control over their bodies through the politics of abortions but I haven't decided if that was when midwives were considered witches for their wealth of understanding our reproductive organs.
Gained: Where it's available, safer abortions for women trying to get one.
Oh, yes, a very small debate. (my answers are american in nature)
Lost: the ability to control other factors surrounding birth via the legislature without having to watch out for "agendas" getting into the mix. (example: giving women the choice about fetal pain relief)
Gained: Legal access to birth control, protection from laws limited our birth control access (with acceptions in areas such as the morning after pill and ru486- or whatever its called)
thought of a few more:
Lost: Integrity in the process of choosing judges. Unfortunately, whether or not they are pro choice/life has become a deciding factor in whether or not a justice should sit on the higher courts.
Gained: protection for girls seeking abortion without their parent's being informed (though this is not everywhere)
