Well I hope this helps you understand.

The most common reasons women consider abortion are:

~Birth control (contraceptive) failure. Over half of all women who have an abortion used a contraceptive method during the month they became pregnant.9
~Inability to support or care for a child.
~To end an unwanted pregnancy.
~To prevent the birth of a child with birth defects or severe medical problems. Such defects are often unknown until routine second-trimester tests are done.
~Pregnancy resulting from rape or incest. Every year, about 13,000 women choose abortion after suffering rape or incest.9
~Physical or mental conditions that endanger the woman's health if the pregnancy is continued.
~In the United States, about 58% of all abortions are performed in the first 8 weeks (first trimester) of pregnancy; 88% are performed before 13 weeks. Less than 6% of all abortions are done after 16 weeks of pregnancy-almost 50% of abortions after 15 weeks have been delayed by difficulty with affording, finding, or traveling to an abortion specialist.8, 9[/b]

I think Birth control failure is a joke!! It doesnt say 100% effective!! When people say i cant afford or handle a baby its like DONT HAVE SEX! That is the only 100% way of not getting pregnant! Some of those reasons up there i can empathize with for instance the rape are severe defects.

Its gonna be great getting to know everyone!!

So what is your suggestion then? There is no birth control that is 100% effective (birth control pills, condoms, even permanant sterilization). So people who do not want babies should not engage in sex, because there is always a .0001 chance they may get pregnant?

My suggestion is if your so sure that you CAN NOT HAVE A BABY then why not do everything you can to make it 100% chance you cant have a baby... like dont have sex

Its the only solution.... just because people dont like it is crazy. Of course if you dont want a baby and you still have sex its fine, as long as if it does happen you take responsibililty. Doesnt it make sense?

I'm married, and after this baby is born I definately do NOT want any more babies for at least 5-6 years. So does that mean my husband and I should not have sex then? Puh-leeze. That's not going to happen.

People who don't want kids should use birth control. If that fails though, they did what they could and then they have to go on to consider their options. They were responsible; they've done their part. Expecting people not to have sex is ridiculous.

People are missing the POINT!!!! OF course i dont expect everyone to not have sex!!!!!! I am right now not wanting another baby myself for at least another year, but of course i am stilll sexually active. But at the same time i realize that i COULD get preggo even on Birth control there is a quite a probability you WILL get preggo!!! at the same token ... If i were to get pregnant even though its not planned I would definately keep it! This is all i am saying! I feel like am in a world of crazyness!!! IF you say you dont want a baby but if you were to get preggo you would still keep it ect then good, taking responsibility ect. BUt if you were like i can not have a baby right now really at all like if you were to get preggo you would have an ABORTION then dont have sex!

ITs a solution that people just dont want to hear! I THINK THATS CRAZYYY~!!!

Its completely laughable that people would rather have abortions!!!!

There was a friend of mine, who for physical reasons was told NOT TO GET Pregnant for a year till she was better, Guess what she did under advice of the doc, she didnt have sex because if she were to get pregnant it would have killed her. I know it would be hard but if YOU THAT BADLY think you cant have a baby at all either your 14 or whatever then dont have sex.

Once again its the only 100 percent birth control!

It seems to me, your solution is to never have abortions. To you it's laughable. To you, it's about responsibilty. So I'm going to ask this question again. Just because a woman can make a child, do you think that they are responsible enough to raise it considering they don't want the child, can't raise it and are not "responsible" enough to prevent it? To you it's as simple as "don't have sex." To the rest of us, people have sex and have unwanted pregnancies. To me, it's a fact of life.

I think its a bit... crazy to tell people not to have sex if they can't handle a baby. So only rich people can have sex? Only people who can afford a child are entitled to having sex?

I think maybe I am not making my point clear...

I am saying if you are so poor that if you were to get pregnant you would try to kill your baby and inturn maybe kill yourself (cause you cant afford abortion anyways) then dont have sex. I dont understand... why you would put yourself in the position for a baby if you can not have one.

I am definately not saying not to have sex with your husband ect... most people if they get pregnant and are married it jsut wasnt planned they keep it! Thats fine with me if you have sex and no you can get preggo but keep the baby then thats good.

But if you walk around saying if i had a baby i would get an abortion if i were to get preggo (whether your rich or poor i dont care) then dont put yourself in the position to have one. Even poor people can have babies and thats fine as long as they take responsibility and take care of the child!

to me this is so simple and cut and dry...

Instead of taking care of a problem after your in the situation (Abortion) , take care of it before so you dont never have to deal with it (no sex, the only real birth control)! TO be honest i thought people were going to understand!

14 year olds dont have sex- why would you say no they can still have sex but just get abortions. You think thats better.
IF your marriend and ect just dont want another kid but are still having sex! GREAT!!! BUT as long as you know theres a chance of having a baby and if it were to happen you would keep her/him!

It's not that you're not being clear. We get your point. It's crystal clear. It just isn't an opinion I can agree with, You said "dont put yourself in the position to have one. Even poor people can have babies and thats fine as long as they take responsibility and take care of the child!" I'm asking you to think outside of that for a moment. You assume people have complete control over the position of having sex. There are many reasons why people have sex and you'll be shocked to learn it's not because they enjoy it, 14 or married. Secondly, poor people do have kids. Many of those kids are unwanted. Have you had a chance to see this thread? The impact of legalized abortion on crime.

Well, if I am going to go to the trouble of getting an IUD put in, or getting a shot in my arm, or whatever, it is because I don't WANT anymore kids, or can't afford them, or don't have time to take care of them all, or whatever my reason might be.

There's a chance the birth control could fail, but that's not my fault (assuming I used it correctly) and I shouldn't be "punished" for my birth control failing by being forced to carry a pregnancy that I did everything to PREVENT.

Its not that the birth control is failing! ITs none its not 100 percent if you get pregnant on it it shouldnt be it failling it did what it was supposed to for 97% of the people or whatever.

2nd... are you really saying people dont have control on whether or not they have SEX! Rape i understand ect... but seriously?

Frankly, you don't get it. The issue is FAR from simple. As a young mother who experienced an unplanned pregnancy, and had to make the decision to keep, abort or adopt, I KNOW that it's not that simple. I chose to keep my child, but I had to make A LOT of sacrifices, and some people just aren't willing to do that. Who are you to say what they can and cannot do with their own reproductive health?

I don't really understand what you're saying here but I think I've already showed you the stats on what 3% of 300 million people can do. BTW, some manufactures say only 95%. 5% of 300 million is alot of pregnancies. Just do the math.

Quote:

Yes I am. It's way more complex than just rape. Firstly, many women don't know what rape is. Secondly, many would never report it. Third, many women have sex for the wrong reasons, blame themselves then have an abortion to hide the misdeed. Let me see if this helps explain it.

Quote:
Rape is the most underreported crime in America. An estimated 70 of every 100,000 females in the country were reported rape victims in 1997. According to estimates, approximately 1.5 million women and 834,700 men are raped and/or physically assaulted annually by an intimate partner in the United States.[/b]
Study

To the bolded, do you realize how many children within relationships are rape babies? We have some here right on JM. Many women, the ones that have the courage to speak up, report these but are brushed off by the police. They are already in abusive relationships and then to add insult to injury, they can't do a darn thing about it. So yes I stand by my claim that many people don't have control over whether or not they have sex, and that's not including a ton of other variables.
