Ok this may be but I need some advice. Emily has had a bad diaper rash for a couple weeks and when I took her for her ear infection this weekend the doctor said it was a yeast rash. She gave us some nystatin cream but it hasnt even made a bit of difference for Emily. Emily is always grabbing at her diapers, crying while she is grabbing down there. She gets these often. I keep her clean- bathe her everyday and change her often. Its not that shes dirty. Anyone have any advice for me??? I just want her to feel better
I'm sorry...poor Emily. Rachael had these all the time too, but the Nystatin worked for her. The only other things I can think of to try are some bare butt time, to let the air help heal the rash, and an oatmeal bath to help soothe it. I'm not sure what else could help the yeast to clear up, though...definitely give her doctor a call and let him/her know that the Nystatin isn't working, though. Maybe they can call in something new for her.
Feel better, Emily!

Awww Poor baby! Zoey was the worse with those... and now Nevaeh too is getting them all the time!!! I feel so bad too, but the bare but seems to help a lot.. After you clean her let her stay bare for a little while or make sure that you don't put her diapy on while she is even a little bit wet...They are the worse they come and they go, but they mostly stay Hope that it goes away soon!
I agree with bare butt time. Yeast grows in moist places so try and let her run comando as much as possible. Make sure she's really dry after her bath before you put a new diaper on her. I would also load her up on the probiotics. Let her eat as much yogurt as she wants, just make sure it's got the good cultures in it and try and find some children's acidopholous. IMO, if the nystatin isn't working, I would use some monostat or other yeast infection cream on her. You could also try Genetian Violet, it's messy and will stain so don't put her in your favorite diapers.
I agree with the bare butt Nystatin usually works for us too. My midwife suggested plain yogurt, like down there... I never went there. LOL! I'm not a fan of yogurt to eat or smell, so putting it down there just didn't appeal to me. But, maybe that would help.
Natalie had a rash a while ago... she was between 1-2 I think. It wasn't yeast. Just a regular rash and the doctor recommended a milk soak. He said to take 2/3 of a glass of milk, mix with 1/3 glass of water and add ice. Then soak a washcloth in it and put it on the rash. We would put a diaper over it. It's COLD, obviously. We'd leave it on for 10 minutes. It did help, but again the rash wasn't a yeast one.
Its been clearing up and looks a ton bette! I have been pushing the probiotics yogurt and she's been getting lots of bare butt time. A friend of mine told me to cut down on the sugar in her diet because sugar feeds yeast. Trying to do this is hard though. She likes her sweet stuff
