I'm FF'ing so I knew to expect some swelling and pain as my milk came in, and I'm prepared for that... but it came in last night and it's not as I remember it at all. There is a large lump on the top of one breast that hurts VERY VERY BADLY... and it's very hard like someone stuck a rock directly under the tissue...
Topless it even look like someone stuck a rock under there... it looks malformed... not swollen evenly...
Is this normal... like I said with DD#1 I remember engorged and painful, but I thought it all swelled up uniformly.

hhmmm.. my milk came in sort of but since i am a first time mommy I have no clue... I am sorry though sounds painful I hope it gets resolved soon for you... ((((HUGS)))
I get lumpy when engorged... use a disposable diaper and fill it with the hottest water you can handle... use it as a compress then massage the lump. you can the hand-express just enough to relieve the pain and then apply cabbage leaves. then wear the tightest bra you can handle.

I pump but one day I went too long without pumping and I had huge lumps on the side near my underarms. I would say it's normal, but I'm a first timer so I'm not really too sure.
I am the same boat as you pretty much. My milk has not come in yet...but my boobs feel like they have rocks inside of them. They hurt horribly and are so heavy.

If you feel like that your milk has definitely come in. Why do you think it hasn't?

I tried expressing some earlier and it didn't work... no leaking or anything yet, so I'm definately going to try the diaper thing...

i did binding to try and dry up when i was going to FF mydaughter (did that for 6 days but she wanted the boob)... but with the binding i wrapped my chest in wraps to prevent them from getting full and stuff... one day i took the binidng off and my boobs didnt move... like. i wrapped them tight so acrossed the middle was sunken in and the top and bottom were fuller... and when i released the bandage nothing moved. it was horrible... i pretty much just stood under the hot water in the shower for an hour to get them to soften enough to be.. i dont know... boob like.
my personal experience with formula feeding (with my son after 7 weeks) is to express some when you get engorged... yes it takes longer to dry up... but you wont be expressing enough to like.. keep up a supply. just enough to ease the pain. no rocks that way...

I don't think my milk has come in cause I lifted my boob up earlier cause gravity is causing me pain lol...and when I picked it up I leaked out what looked like colostrum.
i think your milk has come in... the colostrum coming out is just whats in front. if you pump it out or have the baby get it out then im prettu sure you will get milk.... normally your boobs wont change at all until the milk comes in after birth.... from before. like... if they feel heavy suddenly, they hurt... thats the milk coming in...and also. my BM always had a yellowish look to it... but full, heavy, painful boobs are milk makin boobs!!!
