The day I took my nuva ring out I ended up in the ER with a HORRIBLE UTI. So now Im on heavy duty antibiotics. Yesterday I put my new ring in and today is the last day of my antibiotics. The nurse said to use condoms for this cycle BUT I break out in a rash every time I use them. Will it really effect the BC all month??? Cause then Im screwed! I guess its just pull and pray this month... not sure what Ill be praying for a BFP or a BFN ( DH will be definatly praying for a BFN ha)

On a side note.... When I wanted to have Morgan, DH really wanted a tattoo and I kept saying no. Finally I said yes if we could start TTC. Well yesterday we DTD and after I asked him if he used a condom and he was like no, and if you end up pregnant I get another tattoo. Haha

Did you go longer than normal before putting in the new NuvaRing? That may be why they recommend using back up birth control this cycle. In general, antibiotics can decrease the effectiveness of BC, and we always recommend back up while on antibiotics. It is not so much that the BC would be less effective for the entire month due to the antibiotics you are just finishing now, but lets say you were on an antibiotic mid-cycle, and it caused you to ovulate due to decreased effectiveness of the BC...well, you'd definitely need some other kind of protection, because if you ovulate, you have a good chance of getting pregnant, even though you're still taking the BC for the rest of the month. Does that make sense? But I wouldn't think that one dose of antibiotics today would affect your BC all month. It just might be that they think your cycle might be messed up a bit due to having it out longer than normal (if that's the case) due to the infection, and that you might want to play it safe just in case.

Ok...does that make any sense? LOL. Hope so!

I know they used to make lambskin condoms- my sister used them because she is allergic to latex.

I conceived DD while on birth control over 12 years ago. I had been on antibiotics toward the end of my last cycle but it was a new cycle so I thought I was okay, it wasn't.

That makes sense. I wasnt late putting it back in but I think I took it out a week late. Ive been really horrible about remembering.

I dont think Im allergic to the latex part of the condoms because Im not allergic to medical gloves, but every since the reaction to the condoms Ive told my Gyno to use latex free. Ive tried the lamb skin ones and it still made a rash. I think it could be the lube or something on them. I havent really tested out a bunch to see because its not cool when your hoo ha itches haha. So I just avoid them, which is how Blair happened.
