Do you feed baby a certain amount of solids, or just as much as he/she wants?

Em has a pretty big appetite. When I'm home with her, I try to give her three meals a day, plus bottles. She likes pretty much all Stage 2 foods. Last night I gave her 1/2 jar of chicken rice and 1/2 jar of green beans to start with. She was still opening her mouth for more, so I gave her banana yogurt for dessert. She ate all of that, too. I didn't know whether to give her more, or cut her off so she would drink her bottle for me later. I don't want to over-feed her but if she's still opening her mouth, I guess she's still hungry? I remember the doctor telling me with DS that if he isn't as interested in formula, to cut back on the food. But Em is still drinking at least 24-30 ounces a day, 8 oz bottles! I guess she's just a hungry baby!

I usually give CJ as much as he wants- but he is not an over eater at all. He is healthy and gaining weight steadily so I don't worry about it if he only finishes half a bottle or sucks an 8oz one down. As far as solids sometimes he eats all of it sometimes not. Last night for example he had about 4oz of beef and vegetables (homemade) and then about 3 oz of mango smoothie(jarred). Then he munched on half a biter biscuit. Then we went out to dinner and he ate a few spoonfuls of applesauce and a french fry someone snuck him. He still had a 8oz bottle before bed.

Have you thought of giving her some finger foods to play with/eat?

I give Jude as much as he wants. He slams his hand down on the highchair tray when there's no more food on his tray and he wants more!

I have thought about trying her with finger foods. She seems interested in what we're eating. She's in the 80% for weight so I know she's growing fine. I guess I was just wondering what all of you have been doing food-wise since doctors aren't great about telling you how much they should be eating.

I haven't seen Eli get to the point where he's full yet either. I usually cut him off when he gets to a jar and a half of food, tons of finger foods and cereal. He'll just keep going. I cut him off because we're nursing and I don't want to cut down on that and I don't have any way of measuring his milk intake. I've been gradually increasing the finger food instead of purees though.

I usually prepare her the same amount of food (for the same of keeping track of how much she is eating) everyday but I don't force her to finish it (even though she usually does). So basically I feed her as much as she wants.

When she's done, she usually will take the last bite and blow it right out. Wish she would communicate "no more" differently! lol

There are times where she eyes our food even after she had hers...so I offer her bites here and there.
